AP Government Orders Disciplinary Inquiry Against Suspended IPS Officer N. Sanjay

The Andhra Pradesh government has ordered a disciplinary inquiry against suspended IPS officer N. Sanjay over allegations of financial misconduct, including the misuse and diversion of government funds during his previous postings.

The government has appointed Kumar Viswajeet, Principal Secretary of the Home Department, as the inquiry officer to examine the charges against Sanjay, a 1996-batch IPS officer. Chief Secretary G. Sai Prasad issued the orders under Rule 8(2) of the All India Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1969, directing a detailed inquiry into the allegations.

Sanjay is facing allegations dating back to his tenure as Director General of the Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Response and Fire Services Department. He has been accused of financial irregularities in connection with the development and maintenance of the AGNI web portal. The government has sought a detailed examination of the manner in which funds were sanctioned, utilised and allegedly diverted in relation to the project.

Another set of allegations concerns his tenure as Additional Director General of the Crime Investigation Department (CID). He has been accused of misusing funds allocated for a police training programme on the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

The government order states that Sanjay was given an opportunity to submit a written explanation to the charges. However, he failed to provide his explanation within the stipulated timeframe, according to the order.

The government has instructed the inquiry officer to conduct a comprehensive examination of the charges and submit a report within the prescribed period. Further action will be considered based on the findings of the disciplinary proceedings.

Sanjay has also been a prominent figure in Andhra Pradesh's recent political and administrative developments. In 2023, he was serving as CID chief when then-TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu was arrested.

The present inquiry, however, is focused on the allegations of financial irregularities and fund utilisation linked to his earlier assignments.
