Veterans Day was celebrated with pride and solemnity in Vijayawada under the aegis of the Sainik Welfare Department , recognising the courage, sacrifice, and lifelong service of India’s ex-servicemen . Andhra Pradesh Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha attended the event as chief guest and received a ceremonial salute from veterans. She described the opportunity to meet and honour those who safeguarded the nation as both humbling and a great privilege.

Addressing the gathering, the minister paid tribute to soldiers who protected the country’s borders while in uniform and continue serving society after retirement. She noted that veterans remain at the forefront of community service , disaster relief , rescue operations, and emergency response efforts, where their training, discipline, and leadership prove invaluable. Their continued contribution, she said, strengthens civil preparedness and promotes a culture of responsibility and resilience.

Anitha highlighted the vital role ex-servicemen play in nation-building by fostering discipline, civic responsibility, and social harmony. Across the country, retired defence personnel contribute to civil defence initiatives, disaster management support, youth mentoring, and community welfare activities, reinforcing the foundations of a strong and orderly society.

Describing veterans as living embodiments of patriotism , the minister said they demonstrate through their lives what it means to place the nation above family, caste, religion, or regional identity. Their sacrifices in defending the country, often at the risk of their lives, are beyond measure, she noted, urging citizens to honour and respect such heroes. She also acknowledged the silent strength and sacrifices of military families , whose courage and support enable soldiers to serve with unwavering dedication.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment, the minister said the coalition government led by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is prioritising the welfare of ex-servicemen and their families. She announced the establishment of a dedicated Sainik Welfare Corporation to address veterans’ issues swiftly and improve access to welfare benefits and support services.

In her concluding remarks, Anitha urged the youth to draw inspiration from the lives of veterans and cultivate values such as discipline, dedication, courage, and patriotism. She encouraged young people to grow into responsible citizens and actively contribute to the nation’s progress.

The event saw participation from a large number of veterans, their families, officials, and citizens, transforming the celebration into a heartfelt tribute to India’s defenders and their enduring legacy.
