AP Mobilises 3,000 Personnel for Power Restoration After Cyclone Murasu
Andhra Pradesh Energy Minister Gottipati Ravikumar has assured that every farmer who suffered crop damage due to Cyclone Murasu would be identified and provided compensation. He also announced that electricity restoration works in the affected areas would be completed by Thursday. The minister toured cyclone-hit regions to assess agricultural losses, interact with farmers and review the progress of power restoration operations.
Accompanied by Chilakaluripet MLA Prathipati, Ravikumar visited several areas in and around Chilakaluripet in Palnadu district. He inspected damaged agricultural fields and spoke to farmers about the losses they had suffered. Directing officials to conduct a comprehensive assessment at the ground level, he stressed that no eligible farmer should be excluded from the compensation process. He assured farmers that the coalition government would extend all necessary support to those affected by the cyclone.
The minister said the cyclone had damaged electricity infrastructure across Prakasam, Guntur and Palnadu districts, disrupting power supply in several areas. To accelerate restoration efforts, more than 2,000 electricity personnel from Karnataka and Tamil Nadu had arrived in Andhra Pradesh. Another 1,000 employees from AP SPDCL were deployed in Prakasam and Palnadu districts.
He said the electricity department had mobilised personnel and essential equipment two days before the cyclone to respond to potential damage. Ravikumar credited the advance precautionary measures taken under Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and coordination among various departments for preventing loss of life.
Repair teams were working round the clock to restore damaged infrastructure, including snapped power lines and transformers. The minister instructed officials to speed up the operations and ensure that electricity supply returned to normal without further delay.
Ravikumar subsequently visited cyclone-affected areas in the Parchur and Chirala constituencies of Bapatla district to inspect ongoing restoration works. He met electricity personnel who had arrived from Gulbarga in Karnataka and appreciated their contribution. In Chirala, he also interacted with teams from Tamil Nadu engaged in restoring power connections.
Thanking the personnel for travelling beyond their home states to assist affected communities, the minister acknowledged their efforts in difficult conditions. He reiterated that the government would stand by cyclone-hit families and provide the required financial assistance.
