Giving a significant push to employment generation and infrastructure development, the Andhra Pradesh Government has approved the recruitment of 629 Assistant Executive Engineers (AEEs) across its electricity utilities. The move is expected to strengthen the state's power sector while creating valuable career opportunities for engineering graduates as part of the coalition government's commitment to its Job Calendar .

Announcing the decision, Energy Minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar said the recruitment aims to fill long-pending technical vacancies in power generation, transmission and distribution companies. He noted that the appointments would improve the efficiency of electricity services and support the state's growing energy needs driven by industrial expansion, urbanisation and agricultural demand.

Government orders have been issued for filling vacancies across five major power utilities. APTRANSCO will recruit 200 AEEs , followed by APEPDCL (135) , APSPDCL (134) , APGENCO (100) and APCPDCL (60) , taking the total number of posts to 629 . The recruitment is among the largest engineering hiring drives undertaken by Andhra Pradesh's power sector in recent years.

The online application process will begin on June 30 , while the last date for submitting applications is July 20 , with an extended deadline until July 27 for certain distribution companies. The Computer-Based Test (CBT) is scheduled to be held between August 22 and August 29 .

Candidates with a B.E. or B.Tech degree in Electrical, Civil or Telecommunication Engineering from a recognised university are eligible to apply. No previous work experience is required, making the recruitment an excellent opportunity for fresh engineering graduates. Selection will be based on a 100-mark CBT , comprising 70 marks for the core engineering subject and 30 marks for analytical aptitude and general ability , followed by document verification.

Under the revised RPS-2022 pay structure , selected candidates will receive a starting basic salary of ₹86,245 per month , with the pay scale extending up to ₹2,08,915 , in addition to government allowances and other service benefits.

Speaking on the department's recent performance, Special Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand said the government has not increased electricity tariffs over the past two years . He highlighted that the average power procurement cost had fallen from ₹5.42 per unit in FY2023-24 to ₹4.90 per unit in FY2025-26 , helping reduce overall expenditure. He also said the government absorbed a ₹15,790-crore revenue deficit for FY2026-27 to protect consumers from tariff hikes. He further added that reforms such as energy banking , inter-state power swapping , and better procurement planning have significantly reduced dependence on expensive short-term electricity purchases.
