AP Records 3,865 MW Renewable Energy Capacity Addition in 2025-26

Andhra Pradesh has emerged as one of India's fastest-growing renewable energy hubs, recording a remarkable fourfold increase in clean power capacity additions during the 2025-26 financial year. The state commissioned 3,865.63 MW of renewable energy capacity, a sharp rise from 1,085.15 MW added in the previous fiscal, reflecting the success of its policy-driven push towards sustainable energy and green industrialisation.

According to an official statement issued by the state government, the latest achievement marks a turning point in Andhra Pradesh's energy sector. After years of modest growth, the state has rapidly accelerated renewable energy development through investor-friendly policies, faster project approvals, transparent regulations, and major investments in transmission infrastructure. The government said these measures have strengthened investor confidence and attracted significant domestic and international interest in solar, wind and hybrid power projects.

The scale of the growth becomes evident when compared with previous years. Renewable capacity additions stood at just 125.42 MW in 2021-22, 148.62 MW in 2022-23, and 59.15 MW in 2023-24. The state crossed the 1 GW milestone for the first time in 2024-25, before registering an unprecedented jump to nearly 3.9 GW in the following year.

Officials said streamlined land allocation, improved power evacuation infrastructure, and time-bound project clearances have enabled faster commissioning of renewable energy projects. Beyond increasing electricity generation, the expansion is expected to spur industrial growth, attract fresh investments and create employment opportunities, particularly in rural areas where ancillary industries and support services are taking shape.

The state's progress has also received national recognition. In a written reply to a question raised in the Lok Sabha by Tamil Nadu MP Dr M.K. Vishnu Prasad, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) noted that India has achieved the milestone of sourcing more than 50% of its installed electricity capacity from non-fossil fuel sources, five years ahead of its 2030 target. Andhra Pradesh's rapid renewable energy expansion was cited as a key contributor to this milestone.

The Rayalaseema region has emerged as the backbone of the state's clean energy growth, with Anantapur, Kurnool, and YSR Kadapa attracting large-scale solar parks and wind power projects owing to favourable climatic conditions and abundant land availability. Upgraded transmission corridors have further accelerated the integration of renewable energy into the national grid.

Looking ahead, the state's recently announced Integrated Clean Energy Policy aims to attract nearly ₹10 lakh crore in investments by 2029 across renewable power, energy storage, green hydrogen, green ammonia, and clean energy manufacturing. With a robust project pipeline and sustained policy support, Andhra Pradesh is positioning itself as a leading force in India's clean energy transition, while advancing sustainable economic growth, energy security, and long-term employment generation.
