AP Unveils ₹11,359 Crore Urban Infrastructure Push Across 123 Municipalities

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday virtually launched development works worth ₹11,359 crore across urban areas in the State, laying the foundation for projects in 123 municipalities across 26 districts from Kuppam. The projects will be implemented for the first time in the State under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM).

Addressing officials from Kuppam, Chandrababu described the initiative as a significant milestone in Andhra Pradesh’s municipal development. He said the latest projects included ₹7,469 crore worth of works across the State and another ₹3,890 crore under the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC).

Road infrastructure will receive the largest share, with ₹4,656 crore allocated for road construction. The programme also includes ₹88 crore for central medians, ₹247 crore for street lighting and ₹509 crore for park development. The Chief Minister said works worth ₹22,330 crore were already under way across the State, while another ₹17,000 crore worth of projects would be launched over the next six months.

Chandrababu said urban centres needed to become engines of economic growth and stressed the importance of expanding the weekend economy. He highlighted government initiatives such as TIDCO housing and the Stree Shakti programme, which provides free bus travel to women on selected services.

He said TIDCO housing projects would be completed by 2027 and assured that house sites would be provided to poor families in dispute-free areas. Referring to recent distribution of pattas to 28,500 families in Visakhapatnam, he said the government was also pursuing reforms to speed up building approvals and urban development.

The State has removed 143 lakh tonnes of waste, Chandrababu said, adding that two waste-to-energy plants were operational and four more were planned. The government aims to develop every municipality into a “Golden Municipality” by 2047, he said.

Chandrababu also announced plans to establish environmentally controlled poultry sheds in Kuppam to help poultry farmers expand into organised businesses. During an interaction with local farmers, he said the project would initially be taken up as a pilot initiative.

The State is working with the IB Group to establish the facilities and plans to provide necessary approvals in real time so farmers can develop their units into MSMEs. Chandrababu said the government was promoting poultry, dairy, horticulture and sericulture through dedicated policies.

He added that improved road and rail connectivity would help Kuppam transport poultry products to other markets faster and strengthen its links with Bengaluru.

Later, Chandrababu performed Jal Harathi at the Handri-Neeva Kuppam Branch Canal to welcome Krishna waters into the region.
