The Andhra Pradesh Central Power Distribution Corporation Limited (APCPDCL) has achieved a significant milestone under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, successfully integrating 50,114 rooftop solar connections with the power grid across its service area.

Announcing the achievement, APCPDCL Chairman and Managing Director P. Pulla Reddy said the connected rooftop solar systems have added a combined 180 MW of clean power generation capacity, strengthening the state's renewable energy infrastructure while encouraging households to adopt solar energy.

He noted that the corporation had connected only 6,489 rooftop solar systems by April 2025. Over the past year, however, the utility accelerated implementation by adding 43,625 new connections, taking the total to 50,114. According to him, the rapid expansion reflects the organisation's commitment to promoting renewable energy and increasing the share of clean electricity generation in Andhra Pradesh.

Pulla Reddy attributed the success to the coordinated efforts of APCPDCL officials, engineers and field staff, along with extensive consumer awareness campaigns. He said applicants were provided continuous support from the submission of applications through installation and grid synchronisation, helping ensure quicker completion of projects.

The CMD also highlighted the role of daily review meetings with empanelled vendors, which enabled the corporation to identify and resolve implementation issues without delay. Effective coordination between vendors, field personnel and senior officials helped speed up rooftop solar installations and maintain smooth execution of the programme, he added.

During the occasion, Pulla Reddy congratulated Director (Projects) TVSN Murthy and the entire Projects Department for their contribution to achieving the milestone.

He reaffirmed that APCPDCL would continue to accelerate rooftop solar installations under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana in the coming months. The initiative, he said, will not only support Andhra Pradesh's renewable energy goals but also help consumers reduce their electricity bills through greater adoption of solar power.

The PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, launched by the Central Government, aims to promote rooftop solar systems across the country, with the objective of benefiting one crore households and enabling eligible families to receive up to 300 units of free electricity every month through solar energy generation.
