As preparations for Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations gather pace, APCPDCL CMD P. Pullareddy has urged organisers of Ganesh mandapams across Andhra Pradesh to strictly adhere to electrical safety norms and take all necessary precautions to prevent accidents during the festivities.

Pullareddy said organisers must not obtain unauthorised electricity connections for mandapams under any circumstances. All electrical wiring and installation work should be carried out only by qualified electricians, ensuring that connections are properly secured and capable of handling the required load.

He advised organisers to maintain a safe distance between mandapams and electricity poles and overhead power lines. Particular care should be taken to ensure that no electrical wires pass over the temporary structures. For decorative lighting, organisers should use quality wires, switches and plugs rather than low-grade electrical materials that could increase the risk of short circuits or fires.

The APCPDCL CMD also stressed the need to install wiring and protective devices with sufficient capacity to handle the electrical load. Overloading electrical circuits, he cautioned, could lead to serious accidents, particularly in crowded areas where large numbers of devotees are expected to gather.

With the festival coinciding with the rainy season, Pullareddy urged organisers to take additional precautions against water and electricity-related hazards. Electrical equipment, wires and connections should be adequately protected from rain and moisture. He also appealed to the public to stay away from snapped, damaged or hanging power lines and immediately inform electricity department officials or contact the 1912 toll-free number in case of emergencies.

Organisers have also been asked to ensure that mandapams and festival arrangements do not obstruct public movement or emergency vehicle access, particularly on busy roads and in densely populated areas.

Meanwhile, APCPDCL will provide temporary electricity connections to Ganesh mandapams until September 26. The charges have been fixed at Rs 1,000 for a 500-watt connection and Rs 2,250 for a 1,000-watt connection, with an application fee of Rs 100.

Applications can be submitted through Swarnagram/Ward Secretariats, the APCPDCL website and MeeSeva centres. Pullareddy warned that unauthorised electricity use would attract action under the applicable regulations, including the registration of cases against violators.
