Apple Music Gets Black-and-White Icon in iOS 27.2 Beta 4
Apple has introduced a new black-and-white app icon for Apple Music with the release of iOS 27.2 beta 4, replacing the red-and-white design that has been associated with the service for years. The update was released to developers on October 13 and brings several visual changes to the Music app.
The new icon features a black musical note on a white background in light mode, while dark mode reverses the colours, displaying a white note against a black background. The musical note also appears slightly sharper than in the previous design.
The change is part of a broader Apple Music branding refresh. The company introduced an updated logo in an earlier iOS 27.2 beta and promotional materials before extending the redesign to the app icon and interface.
Inside the Music app, the active navigation tab now uses blue instead of red or pink to indicate the selected section. Music widgets have also switched to plain black backgrounds. In the Library, sections such as Playlists, Albums, Artists and Songs have adopted a monochrome appearance. Text in the app’s settings has also changed from red to blue.
The changes are currently available in the beta version, and Apple could modify the design before the software reaches all users.
Separately, Apple is reportedly planning a two-day product showcase in Los Angeles on October 27 and 28 for content creators and media representatives. According to reports, the sessions could feature upcoming Mac computers and an OLED iPad mini, rather than a conventional livestreamed launch event.
Expected products include MacBook Pro models with OLED displays and touchscreen support, versions powered by the M6 chip, and an updated iPad mini featuring an OLED display. The tablet is also rumoured to include an A20 Pro chip, a landscape-oriented front camera and a redesigned speaker system.
The new Macs are expected to debut in October and reach customers in November. If announced on October 27, pre-orders could begin that day, with a possible launch around November 6. Apple has not officially confirmed these launch details.
