
Applying for a Passport? New Fee Structure Comes into Force from July 1
The Central Government has revised the passport fee structure by amending the Passports Rules, 1980 , with the new rates set to come into effect from July 1, 2026 .
According to a notification issued by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) , the application fee for a 36-page ordinary passport or its reissue has been increased from ₹1,500 to ₹2,500 , while the Tatkal fee has been raised from ₹3,500 to ₹5,000 . For a 60-page passport , the normal fee has gone up from ₹2,000 to ₹3,500 , and the Tatkal fee from ₹4,000 to ₹6,000 .
The government has also increased charges for replacing lost or damaged passports . A 36-page replacement passport will now cost ₹5,000 under the normal scheme and ₹7,500 under Tatkal. For a 60-page passport, the revised fees are ₹6,000 (normal) and ₹8,500 (Tatkal).
For minor applicants below 18 years , the fee for a 36-page passport has been revised to ₹1,750 under the normal category and ₹4,250 under Tatkal. Such passports will remain valid for five years or until the applicant turns 18 , whichever is earlier. Passports issued to adults, and minors aged 15 to 18 years applying under the adult category, will continue to have a maximum validity of 10 years .
The notification also retains a 10 per cent discount on fresh passport applications for children up to eight years of age and senior citizens above 60 years . The amendment, notified on June 20, 2026, replaces Schedule IV of the Passports Rules, 1980 , and takes effect from July 1, 2026 .
