APSEC Orders Probe into Alleged Misconduct with Vidadala Rajini
The Andhra Pradesh State Election Commission (APSEC) has ordered a time-bound inquiry into allegations that Chilakaluripet Rural Sub-Inspector Priyanka misbehaved with former minister Vidadala Rajini and pushed her during an incident at her residence.
State Election Commissioner Anil Chandra Punetha directed the Palnadu district Superintendent of Police to conduct a comprehensive and transparent investigation, initiate appropriate disciplinary action against those found responsible and submit an action-taken report without delay.
The commission took suo motu cognisance of the incident after reports appeared in print and electronic media amid the MPTC and ZPTC election process. After examining Rajini's complaint and the photographic evidence she submitted, the commission ordered an inquiry within a specified timeframe.
It also instructed officials to initiate disciplinary proceedings against the concerned sub-inspector in accordance with the election code of conduct and the rules governing public servants' conduct.
Meanwhile, Rajini thanked everyone who raised their voice against the alleged incident in Chilakaluripet, particularly national media representatives and social media users. In a statement, she acknowledged the widespread response to the matter.
She said the alleged intimidation of political leaders and suppression of democratic rights raised serious questions about the state of democracy and the rule of law in Andhra Pradesh.
Rajini argued that democracy would become meaningless if dissent were suppressed, political leaders were threatened and democratic rights were denied. She called for accountability in governance, the protection of constitutional rights and adherence to democratic principles.
Emphasising women's dignity and safety, she said there could be no compromise on these issues under any circumstances. She stressed that Andhra Pradesh needed a democratic system that safeguarded people's rights rather than suppressed them.
The commission's directive is expected to bring the incident under formal scrutiny, with the inquiry aimed at establishing the facts and determining responsibility for the alleged misconduct.
