Outgoing Chief of the Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi on Wednesday called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan , marking an important engagement ahead of the completion of his tenure as the head of the Indian Army.

The meeting, described as a courtesy call, was also attended by General Dwivedi's spouse, Sunita Dwivedi . The President's Office shared a photograph of the interaction on social media, highlighting the meeting between the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces and the outgoing Army Chief.

In a post on X, the President's Office said that General Upendra Dwivedi , accompanied by his spouse, called on President Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

The meeting comes as the Indian Army prepares for a significant leadership transition . Earlier this month, the government appointed Lt General Dhiraj Seth as the next Chief of the Army Staff . He is scheduled to assume command on June 30 , following the retirement of General Dwivedi.

General Dwivedi's tenure has been associated with efforts to strengthen operational preparedness , accelerate military modernisation , and enhance the Army's capabilities in response to evolving security challenges. As he prepares to demit office, the meeting with the President carries symbolic significance, reflecting the close institutional relationship between the nation's armed forces and the highest constitutional office.

The upcoming change of command will mark another important chapter in the Indian Army's leadership journey. With Lt General Dhiraj Seth set to take charge later this month, attention is now turning to the next phase of military leadership and strategic planning for the country's largest defence force.

The interaction at Rashtrapati Bhavan also underscored a longstanding tradition in which outgoing service chiefs call on the President before completing their tenure, a gesture that reflects respect for service and commitment to the nation.
