The Indian Army's Corps of Signals Dare Devils have added another remarkable achievement to their illustrious record by successfully completing a new world record attempt inside the iconic Atal Tunnel, Rohtang , showcasing extraordinary precision, teamwork and military excellence under challenging high altitude conditions.
The record was achieved on July 1 as part of the nationwide 'Wheels of Valour: Sanchar Shakti' motorcycle expedition, an initiative dedicated to commemorating Kargil Vijay Diwas and celebrating the courage and sacrifice of India's Armed Forces.
In an extraordinary display of skill, 10 riders performed on just two motorcycles , covering the 9.8 kilometre-long Atal Tunnel in 9 minutes and 47.97 seconds . The tunnel, located at an altitude of 10,075 feet , is recognized as the world's longest highway tunnel above 10,000 feet, making the feat even more challenging.
Executing such a performance in the demanding environment of the Himalayas required exceptional balance, endurance, coordination and flawless teamwork. According to the Ministry of Defence, the Dare Devils underwent months of intensive training, rehearsals and technical preparation before attempting the record.
The Army emphasized that the event was conducted under strict safety protocols, with close coordination between the District Administration , Himachal Pradesh Police , Border Roads Organisation (BRO) , Project Yojak , Project Deepak and the 38 Border Roads Task Force (38 BRTF) . Comprehensive operational and safety measures ensured the well-being of the riders, officials, support staff and other road users throughout the event.
Lieutenant General Vivek Dogra , Signal Officer in Chief and Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Signals, expressed gratitude to all civil and military agencies involved for their meticulous planning and unwavering support, saying their cooperation played a crucial role in the successful execution of the record attempt.
The achievement marks the first in a series of ambitious world record attempts planned by the Corps of Signals as a tribute to Kargil Vijay Diwas . Beyond setting records, the ongoing 'Wheels of Valour: Sanchar Shakti' expedition is carrying the message of patriotism and national service across the country through visits to war memorials, military establishments, communication centres and educational institutions.
The expedition also includes interactions with veterans, NCC cadets and students, aiming to inspire young Indians to embrace values such as discipline, leadership, teamwork and service to the nation.
The Army said the record is not merely a spectacular motorcycle performance but a symbol of courage, innovation and operational excellence. It also reflects the Corps of Signals' commitment to promoting adventure sports as a means of building physical fitness, mental resilience and operational readiness while motivating the country's youth to contribute to nation building.
