India produced another medal-rich performance at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Monday, adding eight medals to take its overall tally to 45 - four gold, 20 silver and 21 bronze. Athletics accounted for six of the day's medals, while shooting and kurash contributed one each. India also assured itself of three more boxing medals, taking the number of guaranteed boxing podium finishes to six.

The athletics charge was led by a double podium in the men's javelin. Yashvir Singh won silver with a personal best 85.72m, while Rohit Yadav took bronze with 84.35m. Sri Lanka's Rumesh Pathirage won gold with 88.55m. Murali Sreeshankar added silver in the men's long jump with 8.07m, overcoming an injury that forced him to abandon his final two attempts.

Gulveer Singh secured his second silver of the Games in the men's 1500m, clocking a personal best 3:36.72, after earlier finishing runner-up in the 10,000m. Parul Chaudhary claimed her second bronze of the Games in the women's 5000m with 15:14.61, adding to her 3000m steeplechase bronze.

Vithya Ramraj completed India's athletics medal haul with bronze in the women's 400m hurdles in 54.75 seconds, breaking PT Usha's 42-year-old national record. Anu Raghavan finished fifth. India's other athletics results included Avinash Sable's fourth-place finish in the men's 3000m steeplechase, while the women's and men's 4x400m relay teams progressed to their respective finals.

At the shooting range, Esha Singh won silver in the women's 25m pistol after finishing on 38 hits and losing the gold-medal shoot-off to China's Xiao Jiaruixuan. Esha had earlier qualified eighth for the final. Manu Bhaker, however, missed the individual final after finishing 11th, while India's women's 25m pistol team finished fifth.

Pincky Balhara added India's eighth medal of the day with bronze in the women's -78kg kurash. She beat South Korea's Lim Garam in the quarterfinal before losing 0-5 to another South Korean, Mo Sumin, in the semifinal. It was Balhara's second Asian Games medal.

Boxing provided another major boost. Lovlina Borgohain defeated South Korea's Seong Suyeon 5-0 in the women's 75kg quarterfinal, while Priya Ghanghas beat Tajikistan's Mijgona Samadova 5-0 in the 60kg category. Kapil Pokhariya also advanced to the men's 90kg semifinals with a 5-0 win over South Korea's Kim Gichae. Along with Parveen Hooda, Ankush Panghal and Narender Berwal, the three winners took India's assured boxing medal count to six.

Rain disrupted India's men's cricket quarterfinal against Afghanistan, with the match abandoned without a ball being bowled. India advanced to the semifinals on the basis of its higher ICC ranking. The men's hockey team also continued its strong campaign, thrashing Bangladesh 10-0 to finish top of Pool A and set up a semifinal against Pakistan.

Elsewhere, India's men's volleyball team opened its campaign with a 3-0 win over Hong Kong, while both squash teams recorded victories over China. In archery, Chikitha Taniparthi reached the women's compound quarterfinals after a shoot-off win over Chinese Taipei's Chen Yi-Hsuan, while Jyothi Surekha Vennam exited in the round of 16. Ganesh Mani Ratnam Thirumuru beat compatriot Sahil Jadhav in an all-Indian men's compound clash to reach the quarterfinals.

India also had mixed results in surfing, sepak takraw and tennis, with Kishore Kumar Anbarasu progressing in surfing while Sivaraj Babu exited and the women's doubles tennis pair of Ankita Raina and Rutuja Bhosale lost their opening match.

With 45 medals secured after 10 days, India's campaign now moves into its second half with boxing, hockey, archery, athletics and other disciplines still offering opportunities to add to the tally.
