India enjoyed a memorable day at the Asian Para Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, on Thursday, with Sheetal Devi winning two gold medals, Suvarna Raj claiming top honours in discus throw and Swati Chaudhary securing silver in para-archery.

Sheetal Devi and Toman Kumar clinched gold in the compound mixed team event, defeating Indonesia 151–148 in the final. The Indian pair held their nerve in a closely contested encounter to secure the title.

Sheetal returned to the competition to capture her second gold of the day in the women’s individual compound event. She defeated Singapore’s Nur Syahidah Alim 142–139, producing a strong comeback after trailing by four points. The victory further strengthened India’s campaign in para-archery.

In para-athletics, Suvarna Raj won gold in the women’s discus throw F54 event, adding another top finish to India’s medal-winning campaign.

Swati Chaudhary secured silver in the women’s individual W1 archery event after losing 4–6 to China’s Cen Mengkan in the final. The achievement marked India’s first medal in the women’s W1 category at the Asian Para Games.

Indian para-badminton players also delivered encouraging performances. Nitesh Kumar advanced to the men’s singles SL3 final, while Indian combinations competed in the mixed doubles semifinals. The country’s shuttlers continued to push for podium finishes across multiple categories.

The day’s performances highlighted India’s growing strength in para-archery and athletics, with Sheetal’s double gold emerging as the standout achievement. Suvarna’s victory and Swati’s historic silver further added to the day’s successes.

India entered Thursday’s events with 62 medals - 14 gold, 22 silver and 26 bronze, and was placed fifth in the standings at the end of the previous day. The overall tally was expected to rise as Thursday’s remaining results were confirmed.
