Aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices were raised by 5.46% on Tuesday, while commercial LPG rates increased by ₹9.50 per 19-kg cylinder, as state-owned oil companies revised prices in line with international benchmark movements.

ATF prices were increased by ₹6.28 per litre to ₹121.28 per litre for domestic airlines. The hike follows a ₹5-per-litre increase implemented on August 1, adding to cost pressures for airlines, where jet fuel can account for up to 40% of operating expenses.

The latest increase is expected to further weigh on airline operating costs, particularly amid volatile global energy prices. ATF rates are revised monthly based on international fuel benchmarks and currency movements, with the final price varying across states due to local taxes.

Meanwhile, the price of commercial LPG used by hotels, restaurants and other establishments rose from ₹2,738 to ₹2,747.50 per 19-kg cylinder. The market-priced 5-kg LPG cylinder, known as 5-kg FTL, also became costlier, with its price increasing from ₹762 to ₹764.

The latest commercial LPG increase comes after two consecutive monthly reductions. Rates were cut by ₹183.50 per cylinder in July and by ₹192 in August, following a sharp rise in international LPG prices linked to the West Asia crisis.

Commercial LPG prices had surged by ₹1,373 per 19-kg cylinder between February and June, climbing from ₹1,740.50 to ₹3,113.50 as supply disruptions pushed global energy prices higher.

In contrast, domestic LPG prices remain unchanged at ₹942 for a 14.2-kg cylinder. Petrol and diesel prices have also remained unchanged after being increased by around ₹7.50 per litre each in May.

The latest revisions highlight the continued sensitivity of India’s energy costs to global crude and gas prices, exchange rates and geopolitical developments.
