Australia Clinch WODI Series After Voll’s Masterclass in Hobart
Georgia Voll produced a scintillating century as the Australia women's national cricket team defeated the India women's national cricket team by five wickets in the second Women’s ODI to seal the three-match series here on Friday.
Put in to bat, India posted a competitive 251 for nine in 50 overs , anchored by half-centuries from skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (54 off 70 balls) and Pratika Rawal (52 off 81 balls). The Indian captain looked composed during her knock, while Rawal provided solidity at the top. However, India failed to fully capitalise in the closing overs as Australia struck at regular intervals.
For the hosts, Ashleigh Gardner, Annabel Sutherland and Alana King claimed two wickets each , ensuring India did not breach the 260-mark.
In reply, Australia made light work of the chase, reaching 252 for five in just 36.1 overs . Voll smashed an attacking 82-ball 101, blending elegance with power to put the visitors under sustained pressure. Opener Phoebe Litchfield complemented her brilliantly with a fluent 80 off 62 deliveries as the pair laid the foundation for a comfortable win. The Indian bowlers struggled to contain the scoring rate, with Australia maintaining control throughout the innings.
With this victory, Australia have taken an unassailable lead in the series. The third and final ODI will be played on Sunday at the same venue.
