In a major step toward strengthening India’s research and innovation ecosystem, Axis Bank and BITS Pilani have announced a partnership to establish a ₹100-crore Research and Innovation Park at the institute’s Hyderabad campus. The initiative is expected to create a vibrant platform for collaboration between academia, industry, startups, and researchers, while accelerating the development of affordable healthcare and deep-tech solutions.

The two institutions recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to set up the facility, which will be known as the Axis Bank–BITS Industry Research, Technology and Innovation Park . Designed as a world-class hub for innovation, the park will focus on key sectors including life sciences, biopharma, healthcare, and medical devices , areas that are increasingly driving India’s knowledge economy.

A major advantage of the project is its location near Genome Valley , India’s largest organized life sciences cluster. Home to leading pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and research organizations, the region has emerged as one of the country’s most important innovation corridors. Industry experts believe the new park will leverage this ecosystem to foster stronger industry-academia partnerships and speed up the commercialization of research.

Spread across nearly 1.2 lakh square feet , the facility will house advanced laboratories, incubation centres, collaborative workspaces, and shared research infrastructure. It is expected to provide a launchpad for startups, MSMEs, faculty-led ventures, and young innovators , helping them transform scientific discoveries into practical products and services.

Under the agreement, Axis Bank will oversee the development of physical infrastructure and facilities, while BITS Pilani will be responsible for governance, research strategy, and academic leadership. The project is also expected to benefit from the institute’s strong entrepreneurial culture and its growing network of researchers, innovators, and industry partners.

Beyond conducting research, the innovation park will play a critical role in technology transfer, intellectual property management, and commercialization of innovations . These capabilities are increasingly viewed as essential for bridging the gap between laboratory breakthroughs and market-ready solutions. By creating an integrated innovation ecosystem, the park aims to support the development of technologies that address pressing healthcare and societal challenges.

Commenting on the initiative, Kumar Mangalam Birla , Chancellor of BITS Pilani, said the facility would significantly expand the institution’s research capabilities while contributing to solutions that create meaningful social impact. Amitabh Chaudhry , Managing Director and CEO of Axis Bank, said the collaboration reflects the bank’s commitment to supporting innovation-driven ecosystems capable of addressing critical societal needs.

The project is being seen as a significant boost for Hyderabad’s growing reputation as a hub for research, biotechnology, healthcare innovation, and deep-tech development . As India seeks to strengthen its position in the global innovation landscape, the Axis Bank-BITS Pilani partnership is expected to serve as a model for future industry-academia collaborations.
