Sweden delivered a statement performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, overpowering Tunisia 5-1 in Monterrey to climb to the top of Group F with a display full of pace, precision, and attacking authority.

Midfielder Yasin Ayari was the standout performer, striking twice in a commanding display that set the tone early and sealed the result late. He opened the scoring in the seventh minute with a stunning long-range effort and returned in stoppage time to complete a memorable brace, showing composure and control throughout.

Sweden’s attacking depth was equally impressive. Alexander Isak and Viktor Gyökeres both found the net and contributed assists, underlining a fluid forward line that constantly stretched the Tunisian defence. Mattias Svanberg also got on the scoresheet as Sweden maintained relentless pressure across both halves.

Tunisia, ranked lower but resilient in patches, managed a consolation through Omar Rekik , yet struggled to cope with Sweden’s tempo and movement in the final third. The North African side remains without a breakthrough beyond the group stage in its World Cup history.

The result gains added significance after earlier Group F action, where the Netherlands and Japan played out a 2-2 draw, leaving Sweden in pole position as the group takes shape.

Ayari’s performance carried a personal note as well, with the midfielder opting for subdued celebrations in recognition of his family heritage, adding emotional depth to an already commanding sporting display.
