Bandi Sanjay Says BJP Will Unseat Congress Sooner Than Expected in Telangana
The political sparring between the ruling Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) intensified on Wednesday, with Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar claiming that the BJP would dislodge the Congress government in Telangana much sooner than its opponents anticipate.
The BJP leader's remarks came in response to comments made by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy , who recently downplayed the party’s prospects in the state and mocked BJP national president Nitin Nabin during a public event. Taking to social media platform X, Bandi Sanjay accused the Chief Minister of displaying "political arrogance" and disrespecting a national leader.
According to Sanjay, leaders who become intoxicated with power often mistake arrogance for strength and ridicule for political wisdom. He argued that the Congress government’s performance has already begun generating public dissatisfaction, creating conditions that could accelerate the BJP’s rise in Telangana.
The controversy stems from remarks made by Revanth Reddy during a programme linked to the release of financial assistance for farmers. Rejecting Nitin Nabin’s assertion that the BJP would eventually form the government in Telangana, the Chief Minister said the BJP would face a long wait similar to its journey in West Bengal , where it spent years building its political base before emerging as a serious challenger.
Responding to the comparison, Bandi Sanjay said Telangana’s political landscape is evolving rapidly and should not be viewed through the prism of West Bengal. He maintained that the BJP has repeatedly demonstrated its ability to defeat entrenched governments and powerful political leaders through democratic means. The party, he said, is steadily expanding its grassroots presence across Telangana and attracting support from voters seeking an alternative to the current administration.
The exchange comes at a time when the BJP is working aggressively to strengthen its organization in the state following its improved electoral performance in recent years. Party leaders have repeatedly projected Telangana as one of their key expansion targets in southern India, with an emphasis on cadre-building and outreach at the district level.
Meanwhile, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President B. Mahesh Kumar Goud dismissed the BJP’s claims, describing Nitin Nabin’s recent three-day visit to Telangana as an " utter flop show ." He asserted that the Congress government continues to enjoy strong public support and argued that no opposition party is currently positioned to challenge its hold on power.
With the Congress defending its governance record and the BJP stepping up its campaign to emerge as the principal opposition force, the latest exchange signals the beginning of a more intense political battle ahead of Telangana’s next electoral cycle. The war of words also reflects the growing competition between the two national parties as they seek to shape the state's evolving political narrative.
