Access to specialised healthcare services remains a challenge for many women in rural parts of Andhra Pradesh , particularly when it comes to cancer screening and early diagnosis . In an effort to address this gap, a large-scale free cancer screening camp was organised in Kalyandurg constituency , bringing advanced medical services closer to women who often struggle to travel to distant cities for basic diagnostic tests.

The camp, held at Prajavedika in Kalyandurg , was organised under the initiative of MLA Amilineni Surendra Babu with the support of a team of oncologists and specialists from the Basavatarakam Indo-American Cancer Hospital and Research Institute, Hyderabad . The medical team conducted screening tests for women and also provided guidance on recognising early warning signs of cancer and the importance of preventive healthcare.

From the early hours of the day, women from several mandals in the constituency arrived at the venue in large numbers to undergo the screening tests. Many participants said that travelling to cities such as Anantapur or Bengaluru for cancer-related examinations is often difficult due to financial constraints and long travel distances. By organising the camp within the constituency, the initiative helped ensure that modern diagnostic services were made available at the local level.

During the programme, doctors used advanced screening equipment to conduct preliminary examinations and interacted with the participants about common cancers affecting women, particularly breast cancer and cervical cancer . Medical experts explained that early detection plays a crucial role in successful treatment , and regular health check-ups can significantly improve survival rates. Women were encouraged to overcome hesitation and undergo routine screening tests to identify potential health risks at an early stage.

Speaking during the programme, MLA Surendra Babu said the initiative reflects a broader commitment to strengthening public healthcare access in the constituency. He noted that many women tend to postpone medical examinations because of economic difficulties or travel-related challenges, which often leads to delayed diagnosis.

The MLA expressed satisfaction over the large turnout of women at the camp and described it as a positive sign of growing awareness about health issues. He also indicated that plans are underway to organise similar health camps at the village level in the coming months to further expand access to preventive medical services across the constituency.
