BEML’s 60-Ton Electric Dump Truck Promises Up to 60% Lower Operating Costs
BEML Limited has unveiled India’s first indigenously designed and developed 60-ton electric dump truck, the BH60-EV, marking a significant step towards cleaner heavy-duty mobility for the mining and infrastructure sectors.
The next-generation electric dump truck was virtually launched by BEML CMD Shantanu Roy at the company’s Mysuru Complex in the presence of functional directors, senior officers and employees.
Designed and developed at the Mysuru facility, the BH60-EV combines high payload capacity with an advanced electric powertrain and operator-focused engineering. The vehicle produces zero tailpipe emissions during operation and is designed to meet the demanding requirements of mining and infrastructure applications.
The truck is powered by a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) integrated with a rugged gearbox and a 1,000 kWh high-voltage lithium-ion battery pack, providing the power and torque required for heavy-duty operations.
The BH60-EV offers a payload capacity of 54,500 kg with a rock body and a volumetric body capacity of 36.4 cubic metres. Its electric powertrain provides instant torque, high tractive effort, strong acceleration and improved gradeability, helping enhance operational efficiency.
According to BEML, the electric dump truck is designed to deliver 40–60 per cent lower operating costs compared with conventional diesel-powered equipment. It is also estimated to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by around 130 tonnes annually per vehicle, depending on operating conditions.
For safety and operator comfort, the truck features a spacious cabin equipped with a Roll-Over Protective Structure (ROPS), emergency steering and sealed oil-cooled disc brakes.
BEML has also developed a complete charging-station solution compatible with site electrical infrastructure and scalable for fleet operations.
The BH60-EV expands BEML’s growing electric vehicle portfolio and follows the launch of its 35-ton electric dump truck in April 2026, reinforcing the company’s focus on indigenous electric heavy machinery for domestic and global markets.
