India is preparing to place the circular economy at the heart of industrial growth as the World Circular Economy Forum (WCEF) 2026 comes to Gandhinagar from September 15 to 18. The 10th edition, the first in South Asia, is expected to focus on turning circular-economy principles into practical policies, investments, technologies and scalable business models.

Under the theme “Circular Economy: Transition for People and Prosperity,” the forum will bring policymakers, businesses, investors and innovators together to explore how circular solutions can reshape value chains and strengthen competitiveness. Its programme includes discussions on sustainable resources, market transformation, innovation, finance and enabling policy frameworks.

A key expected outcome is greater movement from pilot projects to commercially scalable solutions. Sessions will examine financing mechanisms for circular businesses, including investment approaches that can help entrepreneurs secure capital and encourage financiers to take a longer-term view. The forum will also address ways to help millions of MSMEs adopt resource-efficient and climate-friendly practices.

Digitalisation will be another important area. Discussions on digital product passports are expected to explore how traceability and product information can support ecodesign, recycling and more circular global value chains. Digital governance can also improve resource recovery, waste management and citizen participation.

The transition could simultaneously create new markets in recycling technology, waste management, remanufacturing, sustainable manufacturing, repair services, material innovation and resource-tracking software. Startups and investors could find opportunities in circular platforms, green finance and new product-as-a-service models.

Most importantly, WCEF 2026 could help India redefine the circular economy as more than waste management. By embedding circularity in product design, manufacturing, value chains and business strategy, India can turn environmental challenges into opportunities for innovation, investment, jobs and globally competitive, resource-efficient growth.
