Bharat Future City to Drive Telangana’s $1 Trillion Economy Goal: CM Revanth Reddy
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has unveiled an ambitious vision for the state's future, declaring that the upcoming Bharat Future City on the outskirts of Hyderabad will be developed into a world-class urban hub capable of competing with global cities such as New York, Tokyo and Singapore by 2034.
The Chief Minister made the remarks while inaugurating the newly constructed Future City Development Authority (FCDA) office at Mucherla on Wednesday. Describing the project as a milestone in Telangana's development journey, he said Bharat Future City is designed to fulfill the aspirations of Indians who admire the infrastructure, planning and quality of life found in leading international cities.
According to Revanth Reddy, the proposed city will serve as a next-generation economic and innovation hub built around the principles of sustainability, technology and global competitiveness. The government plans to develop the project as a net-zero city , with a strong emphasis on green industries, artificial intelligence, data centres, advanced healthcare, higher education and sports infrastructure . The city is also expected to attract major multinational corporations and global investors, further strengthening Hyderabad’s position as one of India’s leading technology destinations.
The Chief Minister said the project will play a central role in Telangana’s long-term goal of becoming a $1 trillion economy by 2034 . He directed officials to prepare comprehensive master plans that would enable Bharat Future City to emerge as a major centre for investment, innovation and employment generation. The government believes the development can serve as a model for future urban planning in India while creating opportunities for the next generation of skilled professionals.
Highlighting the government's commitment to the project, Revanth Reddy noted that the FCDA office was completed in a relatively short period after construction began last year. He said the swift completion reflected the administration’s determination to execute large-scale infrastructure projects without delays.
The Chief Minister also launched a sharp attack on the opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) over its criticism of the project. Referring to statements suggesting that the Future City initiative could be scrapped if the opposition returns to power, he accused BRS leaders of attempting to obstruct Telangana’s development agenda. Drawing comparisons with major infrastructure projects such as HITEC City , the Outer Ring Road , and Rajiv Gandhi International Airport , he argued that transformative initiatives often face resistance before eventually becoming symbols of progress.
Revanth Reddy further claimed that Hyderabad’s recent flooding and traffic disruptions were largely the result of unchecked encroachments on lakes, nalas, parks and government land during the previous administration. He stressed that the current government is taking a firm stance against illegal occupations and unauthorized constructions, stating that preserving water bodies and public spaces is essential for the city’s sustainable growth.
The Chief Minister said Hyderabad must learn from the urban challenges currently confronting several major Indian metropolitan areas and adopt a more planned approach to expansion. He emphasized that Bharat Future City is being conceived not merely as a real-estate development, but as a long-term economic and technological ecosystem that will shape Telangana’s future for decades to come.
With large-scale infrastructure planning underway and the government positioning the project as a flagship development initiative, Bharat Future City is expected to become one of the most closely watched urban transformation projects in the country over the next decade.
