Rajasthan has taken a significant step toward reshaping urban mobility with the launch of 'Bharat Taxi', a platform described as India's first cooperative-based mobility service. Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma flagged off more than 100 cabs, bikes and auto-rickshaws on Saturday, marking the formal rollout of the ambitious initiative aimed at empowering drivers while offering commuters a reliable transport alternative.

Speaking at the launch event, Sharma said the platform is built on the principle that "the driver is also the owner," a model designed to ensure greater financial participation and decision-making power for those behind the wheel. According to him, ownership creates a stronger sense of responsibility, improves service quality and boosts drivers' confidence and long-term commitment.

The chief minister highlighted the encouraging response received during the platform's soft launch in Jaipur. He said more than 30,000 drivers have already enrolled with Bharat Taxi, while nearly seven lakh customers have registered to use the service. The early participation, he noted, reflects growing public interest in a mobility ecosystem driven by cooperative values rather than conventional aggregator models.

Officials believe the initiative has the potential to transform the ride-hailing sector by ensuring fairer earnings for drivers while maintaining affordable and dependable transport services for passengers. The cooperative structure is expected to promote transparency, accountability and shared economic benefits among its members.

Expressing optimism about the project's future, Bhajanlal Sharma said Bharat Taxi has the potential to become the world's most successful cooperative-based mobility platform. He added that the initiative aligns with the state's broader vision of strengthening cooperative institutions and creating sustainable livelihood opportunities through innovation.

With its unique ownership-driven framework and expanding customer base, Bharat Taxi enters India's competitive mobility market with a distinctive approach, positioning itself as a people-centric transport solution that seeks to balance technological convenience with inclusive economic growth for drivers and commuters alike.
