Big Move in IPL: Yuvraj Singh Joins Delhi Capitals as Batting Coach

Former India white ball star Yuvraj Singh is set to begin a new chapter in his cricket journey, as he prepares to join Delhi Capitals as their batting coach for the 2027 Indian Premier League season, according to IPL sources.

The move marks Yuvraj Singh’s first official coaching role in the IPL, a league where he once featured as a powerful match winner across 132 matches before retiring in 2019 after his stint with Mumbai Indians.

Widely regarded for his explosive batting, Yuvraj Singh was the Player of the Tournament in both the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup. In recent years, he has also worked closely as a personal mentor to several top Indian cricketers, including Shubman Gill , Abhishek Sharma , and has previously guided Rishabh Pant during phases of poor form.

The development comes as part of a broader structural reshuffle at Delhi Capitals , with co owners JSW taking charge of team management for the 2027 to 2028 cycle. As part of this transition, the existing coaching group including Venugopal Rao, Hemang Badani, and Munaf Patel is expected to step aside.

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly will take over as Director of Cricket, with Yuvraj Singh joining the setup as batting coach. Sources suggest Ganguly , who shares a long association with Yuvraj from his playing days, played a key role in bringing him into the new structure.

Delhi Capitals have struggled in recent IPL seasons, failing to reach the playoffs in the last two campaigns. The franchise is now looking at a reset in strategy, planning, and squad direction ahead of the new cycle.

There is also growing speculation around possible squad changes, including the future of Rishabh Pant , who is expected to move away from Lucknow Super Giants and could become part of trade discussions involving Delhi Capitals .
