Bigg Boss Made TV History As Five Seasons Premiered In One Night
Bigg Boss turned September 6 into a landmark night for Indian reality television, with multiple regional editions launching around the same festive period as the franchise marked 20 years. The wider JioStar rollout covered six language versions Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Bangla.
Bigg Boss Tamil Season 10 premiered at 6 PM on Star Vijay and JioHotstar, with Vijay Sethupathi returning as host. The season introduced a redesigned house and the festive ‘CarniVizha’ theme. A key new element was audience participation in deciding house entries, with a live-voting twist involving prospective contestants during the launch.
Bigg Boss Telugu Season 10 followed at 7 PM on Star Maa and JioHotstar, with Nagarjuna Akkineni returning as host. The season carried the ‘Dhasavatharam’ theme and continued the commoner-entry concept through Agnipariksha, with Jhansi securing direct entry into the house following the pre-show selection process.
The evening also saw the launch of Bigg Boss Kannada Season 13, hosted by Kichcha Sudeep, at 7 PM on Colors Kannada and JioHotstar. Bigg Boss Malayalam Season 8, hosted by Mohanlal, also had its grand launch at 7 PM on Asianet and JioHotstar.
The Hindi edition, Bigg Boss 20, premiered on JioHotstar at 9 PM before its television telecast on Colors TV at 10:30 PM, with Salman Khan returning as host. The season introduced the ‘Vardaan’ concept, while the new house featured an elaborate visual design and reportedly used 104 cameras to monitor contestants.
Adding to the scale of the occasion was a special crossover featuring Vijay Sethupathi, Nagarjuna, Kichcha Sudeep and Mohanlal. The four regional hosts appeared together in promotional material, highlighting the growing reach of the franchise across South Indian markets.
Bigg Boss Bangla, hosted by Sourav Ganguly, was also part of the six-language strategy, although its latest season had already premiered on August 30 on Star Jalsha and JioHotstar.
The coordinated rollout, backed by more than 95 sponsors across the six editions, underscored the franchise’s expanding commercial and cultural footprint. The September 6 celebrations therefore went beyond individual season premieres, marking two decades of Bigg Boss and its evolution into one of India’s biggest multi-language reality franchises.
