BJP Accuses Rahul Gandhi of Spreading Propaganda Over 'Collapsing System' Claim

The BJP on Thursday launched a sharp attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his claim that Prime Minister Narendra Modi may no longer remain in office within a year , accusing the Leader of Opposition of spreading propaganda and attempting to create panic.

Addressing tribal leaders at an event organised by the Adivasi Congress on Wednesday, Gandhi alleged that the "system" once controlled by Modi was "shaken and collapsing internally" . He also warned of an impending "economic tsunami" and suggested that the government could attempt to suppress public pressure through measures resembling an Emergency.

Reacting to the remarks, BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla said Gandhi's comments reflected the Congress party's own history. He pointed out that the only Emergency imposed in India was by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and accused the Congress of undermining constitutional institutions during that period.

Poonawalla argued that the real crisis was within the Congress, alleging internal dissent and a growing revolt against dynastic politics . He claimed that party leaders were leaving the Congress due to dissatisfaction with its leadership and accused Gandhi of placing dynasty above democracy.

The BJP spokesperson also alleged that Gandhi had repeatedly targeted India's democratic institutions and damaged the country's image abroad. He accused the Congress leader of making misleading statements on issues ranging from the economy and Covid-19 vaccines to national security.

Poonawalla further charged Gandhi with spreading misinformation and pursuing what he described as "panic to profit" politics . Urging him to stop maligning India internationally, he said the Congress leader's repeated criticism of national institutions was harmful to the country's interests.

The exchange marks the latest escalation in the political war of words between the BJP and Congress as both parties sharpen their attacks ahead of future electoral contests.
