BJP Eyes Clean Sweep In Gujarat Rajya Sabha Polls As Congress Faces Wipeout

All four BJP candidates on Monday filed their nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha elections from Gujarat, putting the party on course for a clean sweep as the Congress has decided not to contest.

The move marks another setback for the Congress in the state, as the end of Shaktisinh Gohil's term later this month will leave the party without a single representative from Gujarat in the Upper House.

The four seats are falling vacant due to the completion of six-year terms of sitting MPs Rambhai Mokariya, Narhari Amin, Ramilaben Bara (all from BJP), and Shaktisinh Gohil of Congress. Gohil has been the only Congress representative from Gujarat in the Rajya Sabha , and with no replacement candidate in the fray, the party is set to lose its representation from the state in the Upper House.

The BJP nominees include Rajubhai Shukla, Mansinh Parmar, Mukeshbhai Rathwa, and Jitendra Kanjariya. Their nominations were filed in the presence of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Deputy CM Harsh Sanghvi, state BJP president Jagdish Vishwakarma, and other senior leaders, reflecting the party’s organisational coordination and strength in the state legislature .

Shukla currently heads BJP’s Surendranagar district unit, while Rathwa is a tribal leader from Chhotaudepur and serves as district general secretary. Parmar leads the party’s OBC Morcha in Gujarat, and Kanjariya is also an OBC leader from Devbhumi Dwarka with prior experience in local governance.

With the BJP holding 161 MLAs in the 182-member Gujarat Assembly , and no opposition candidate in the race, the ruling party is expected to win all four seats unopposed . The scrutiny of nominations will be held on June 9, and June 11 is the last date for withdrawal. If required, polling will take place on June 18, with counting on the same day.
