BJP MLAs Stage Tractor Rally to Assembly, Demand PM Crop Insurance Scheme

BJP legislators on Friday staged a tractor rally from the MLA quarters to the Telangana Assembly, demanding the immediate implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) in the state.

The protest, involving BJP MLAs Rakesh Reddy and Payal Shankar among others, was aimed at highlighting the difficulties faced by farmers who suffer crop losses due to natural calamities and other factors.

The legislators said the absence of a crop insurance scheme had left farmers vulnerable to mounting losses. They urged the state government to introduce the PMFBY without further delay and warned that the party would intensify its agitation if their demand was not addressed.

Payal Shankar also alleged that issues affecting the public were not being adequately debated in the Assembly. He accused the Congress government of failing to address student fee reimbursement arrears and land-related disputes.

He claimed that nearly 50 lakh people in Telangana were struggling with issues concerning their own or agricultural land. The BJP MLA further alleged that fee reimbursement dues had accumulated to around Rs 15,000 crore, leaving thousands of students facing difficulties in continuing their education.

According to Shankar, students who had completed their courses were also struggling to obtain their certificates because of the pending dues. He alleged that opposition parties had been raising these issues in the Assembly but the government was avoiding giving clear answers.

Shankar also criticised both the Congress and the previous BRS governments, alleging that people continued to face serious problems under both administrations. The BJP maintained that the government should address farmers' concerns as well as pending issues affecting students and landowners.
