BJP Targets Rahul Gandhi Over ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’, Launches ‘Jhooth Ki Goonj’ Counter

The BJP on Thursday launched a sharp attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ campaign, accusing him of misleading students and young people through what it described as false and misleading claims.

The party cited a website titled ‘Jhooth Ki Goonj’, which claims to fact-check statements made by Gandhi during his recent campaign events. BJP leaders described the platform as a counter to Gandhi’s narrative and shared its link on social media.

BJP MP and national spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi accused Gandhi of being a “flag-bearer of lies” and alleged that his statements were driven by frustration and envy towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Party national media head Anil Baluni said Gandhi’s claims would now be answered with facts and evidence.

BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari claimed the website had been launched by young people unhappy with Gandhi’s “fake narrative”. He said Gandhi had made 40 claims across four programmes, all of which the website had classified as either false or misleading.

Senior Supreme Court lawyer Ramesh Jethmalani also criticised Gandhi, calling ‘Jhooth Ki Goonj’ the “nemesis” of his student-focused campaign. He claimed the website examined Gandhi’s 40 statements using 134 sources, with 29 rated false and 11 misleading.

According to the BJP, the website examines Gandhi’s statements on issues including employment, NEET-related expenditure and crimes against women, while providing supporting documents and sources.

Another BJP spokesperson, Pratyush Kanth, said the platform was systematically examining Gandhi’s claims using documented evidence. BJP leader Prem Shukla similarly said the website was exposing the Congress leader’s claims one by one.

Gandhi has so far held four ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ events, focusing on issues concerning students and the youth. The BJP’s latest campaign marks an intensification of its political response to his allegations and attempts to challenge his claims with an alternative fact-checking narrative.
