BJP Vows Action Over Alleged Singareni Irregularities, KTR Seeks Judicial Probe
Allegations of large-scale irregularities in the operations of Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) have triggered a fresh political confrontation in Telangana, with the BJP and BRS exchanging sharp accusations over the reported disappearance of coal stocks valued at nearly ₹1,600 crore .
Senior BJP leader and former Bhongir MP Boora Narsaiah Goud on Saturday asserted that a BJP government in Telangana would take stringent action against all political parties and individuals found responsible for misappropriating resources belonging to the state-owned coal mining company.
Addressing the media, Narsaiah Goud said the Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre remains committed to transparency, accountability and zero tolerance towards corruption . He alleged that during previous administrations, Singareni had been treated as a source of financial benefit by certain political interests. Expressing confidence that the BJP would come to power in the state in the future, he said every rupee allegedly acquired through illegal means from the company would be recovered from those responsible.
His remarks came in response to allegations made by BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) , who recently demanded a judicial inquiry into the reported coal stock discrepancy. KTR wrote to Union Coal Minister G. Kishan Reddy , seeking a probe by a sitting judge into the alleged disappearance of nearly 40 lakh metric tonnes of coal recorded in company accounts.
According to KTR, coal that was meant to reach designated stockyards was allegedly diverted and sold illegally, causing substantial losses to the public sector enterprise. He argued that Singareni's coal resources belong to the people of Telangana and accused both the State and Central governments of failing to protect the interests of the organisation.
The BRS leader also called for investigations into several other aspects of the company's functioning, including solar power tenders, diesel procurement, explosive material purchases, utilisation of CSR funds and the diversion of Singareni resources for non-core purposes . He alleged that serious irregularities may have occurred in these areas and sought a comprehensive inquiry.
Warning of intensified agitation, KTR said the party would launch state-wide protests alongside Singareni workers and employees if the Centre failed to order an independent investigation.
With both sides hardening their positions, the controversy surrounding the coal mining giant has emerged as a major political issue, adding further intensity to the ongoing confrontation between Telangana's principal political parties.
