Pakistan's picturesque Swat Valley witnessed a heartbreaking tragedy after a boat carrying nine members of the same family capsized in a lake, leaving six tourists dead while three others remain missing , prompting an extensive rescue operation.
The accident occurred on Wednesday at Saifullah Lake in the Kalam Valley of Upper Swat district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa , a region renowned for its breathtaking landscapes and a popular destination for domestic tourists. According to local police, all nine passengers aboard the boat belonged to the same family and were enjoying a trip on the lake when the vessel suddenly overturned.
Soon after the incident was reported, Rescue 1122 Swat teams rushed to the spot and launched an intensive search and rescue operation. Rescue personnel recovered the bodies of six victims from the lake near the Mahodand area. However, efforts were continuing to locate the three missing family members , with emergency teams combing the waters in difficult conditions.
Officials confirmed that all the deceased were residents of Pakistan's Punjab province , who had travelled to the scenic valley for a family outing. Authorities have not yet disclosed the identities of the victims, and information about the condition or whereabouts of the missing persons was still awaited at the time of reporting.
The exact reason behind the boat overturning has not been established. Officials have launched a formal investigation to determine the circumstances that led to the accident, including whether safety protocols were followed and if any negligence contributed to the tragedy.
Reacting to the incident, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi took immediate notice of the accident and sought a detailed report from the concerned authorities. He instructed the district administration to ensure a thorough inquiry and directed officials to take strict action against anyone found responsible if negligence or misconduct is established.
The tragedy has once again raised concerns about tourist safety and boating regulations at popular recreational spots across Pakistan, where thousands of visitors flock every year during the summer season. As rescue teams continue their search for the missing family members, the incident has cast a shadow over one of the country's most visited tourist destinations.
