YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) senior leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council Botsa Satyanarayana on Sunday launched a sharp attack on the state government, alleging that Andhra Pradesh is witnessing a serious deterioration in law and order and that political opposition is being systematically targeted.

Addressing a media conference in Visakhapatnam, Satyanarayana strongly condemned the alleged attack on a convoy of YSRCP leaders travelling to Penumaka village in the Amaravati region . According to him, a delegation comprising YSRCP MLCs and former ministers was heading to the village at the invitation of local farmers to understand their concerns over land-related issues when it was allegedly obstructed and attacked by supporters of the ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP).

He said interacting with farmers and assessing their grievances is a legitimate democratic activity and questioned why the government was preventing opposition leaders from visiting the area. Satyanarayana alleged that farmers in the Amaravati region were being subjected to harassment in the name of land acquisition and development. If development activities in Amaravati are transparent and beneficial, there should be no reason to stop opposition leaders from meeting local residents, he argued.

The YSRCP leader further alleged that the coalition government fears the exposure of ground realities and is therefore attempting to suppress dissent. He demanded a thorough investigation into the incident and called for strict action against those responsible for the alleged attack.

Satyanarayana also accused the government of filing politically motivated cases against opposition leaders and using state machinery to harass those who question its policies. Referring to the custodial death of Gade Sai Krishna in Vijayawada, he claimed the incident reflected the growing concerns over governance and public safety in the state.

On the agricultural front, he alleged that the government had failed to protect farmers' interests and ensure adequate support for agricultural produce. The lack of effective price support, he said, has left farmers across Andhra Pradesh facing financial difficulties.

The opposition leader also criticised the state's new liquor policy, objecting to plans to permit liquor outlets in locations such as beaches, airports and other public tourist destinations . Such measures, he said, run contrary to public sentiment and the state's cultural values.

Reiterating his demand for accountability, Satyanarayana urged authorities to immediately identify those involved in the Penumaka incident and ensure they are brought before the law.
