'Brahmastra 2': Jio Studios Reportedly Backs Out As Ayan Mukerji Searches For New Partner

'Brahmastra 2' is reportedly facing a fresh hurdle, with Jio Studios deciding against coming on board as the studio partner for Ayan Mukerji’s much anticipated sequel starring Ranbir Kapoor. The development has reportedly left the makers searching for another major studio to back the project.

According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, Ayan Mukerji’s production house Starlight Pictures Private Limited will produce 'Brahmastra 2' and holds the rights to the franchise’s intellectual property. However, the makers have been looking for a studio partner to help finance and support the ambitious sequel.

The report states that discussions were held with Jio Studios, but the talks did not materialise into a formal partnership. Jio has now reportedly decided against associating with the sequel, leaving the team to continue its search for another studio.

The development is notable because Star Studios was one of the key partners of the first 'Brahmastra'. Following changes in the entertainment business and Star’s integration into the JioStar ecosystem, there had been expectations that the association could continue through Jio Studios. That possibility has reportedly now fallen through.

The search for a new studio partner comes as Mukerji continues work on the sequel. Recent reports have suggested that Ranbir Kapoor will return, with Alia Bhatt also reprising her role. However, several casting details surrounding the sequel remain subject to official confirmation.

There has also been speculation about Deepika Padukone joining the film, but her team has now denied recent reports claiming that she is part of 'Brahmastra 2'. Her spokesperson said the reports were untrue.

The sequel is expected to expand the fantasy universe established by the first film and is being planned on a much larger scale. Reports have also suggested that production could begin in 2027, although the exact schedule and release date have not been officially announced.

The first 'Brahmastra' was released in 2022 and featured Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Amitabh Bachchan, Mouni Roy and Nagarjuna. The film launched Ayan Mukerji’s planned Astraverse franchise and was produced through a collaboration involving Dharma Productions, Starlight Pictures and other partners.
