India is set to host the BRICS Women Working Group (WWG) Meeting in Kochi, Kerala , on July 6 and 7 , bringing together senior government officials from all 11 BRICS member countries to strengthen cooperation on women's empowerment and women led development . The meeting is being held under India's BRICS Chairship 2026 and is expected to play an important role in shaping future collaboration among member nations on issues affecting women across political, economic and social sectors.

Guided by India's BRICS Chairship theme, "Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability," the discussions will focus on creating practical solutions and stronger partnerships that promote inclusive growth. Officials will deliberate on key policy documents and work towards building consensus on initiatives that can be taken forward collectively by BRICS countries.

This year's BRICS Women Track has identified four major priority areas. These include women in governance and leadership, digital and financial inclusion, entrepreneurship and skill development, and women's role in climate action, food security and nutrition. The meeting aims to encourage greater participation of women in decision making while ensuring they have better access to opportunities, technology, finance and sustainable livelihoods.

The gathering in Kochi follows three rounds of virtual consultations held on April 30, May 22 and June 29 , during which member countries discussed common priorities and prepared the agenda for the in person meeting. These discussions have helped build momentum ahead of the two day event.

The BRICS grouping , comprising Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates , represents nearly 49.5 percent of the world's population and contributes around 40 percent of global GDP . Given its growing global influence, decisions taken within the forum have significant international relevance.

Officials believe the Kochi meeting will lay the groundwork for the BRICS Women Ministerial Meeting , scheduled for July 8 and 9 , where ministers are expected to endorse key outcomes and reaffirm the group's shared commitment to advancing women led development through practical cooperation and long term policy partnerships.
