BRS, BJP Step Up Attack as Congress Government Marks 1,000 Days of Rule
The completion of 1,000 days of the Congress government in Telangana has triggered a fresh political offensive from the opposition, with both the BRS and BJP questioning the implementation of election promises and accusing the ruling party of failing to meet public expectations.
The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) on Wednesday released a charge sheet against the Congress government, launching a statewide campaign under the theme “1,000 Days of Deceptive Governance.” BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) alleged that several promises made by Congress ahead of the Assembly elections remain unfulfilled.
The BRS targeted the government over commitments related to farmers, students, unemployed youth and women. It alleged that promised financial assistance for farmers, farm labourers and tenant farmers had not been fully implemented. The party also raised questions over the proposed Rs 2 lakh farm loan waiver, educational support, unemployment assistance and job recruitment.
KTR accused the government of presiding over what he described as financial and social decline during its tenure. He said the Congress had promised rapid change after coming to power but had failed to deliver on several major commitments.
The party also alleged that fee reimbursement dues had mounted, putting pressure on students and their families, while several welfare assurances for women, including monthly financial assistance and other benefits, remained pending.
Meanwhile, the BJP also intensified its criticism, putting up posters at prominent locations in Hyderabad, including areas near the TPCC office, Telangana Assembly and the Chief Minister’s residence.
The posters questioned the Congress government's record after 1,000 days and demanded clarity on the implementation of its election promises. BJP state chief spokesperson N.V. Subhash asked the government to explain how many of the guarantees and commitments announced during the 2023 Assembly elections had been fulfilled.
The BJP questioned the government’s decision to celebrate the completion of 1,000 days with publicity campaigns and events, arguing that the administration should instead provide an account of its performance.
The BRS, meanwhile, has announced a week-long statewide programme beginning September 2 to highlight what it calls the government's failures and the problems faced by different sections of society.
The Congress government has rejected the opposition's criticism, maintaining that its 1,000-day tenure has delivered significant progress in welfare and infrastructure. Congress leaders said the government had worked for farmers, women, employees, students and unemployed youth, while continuing to push development initiatives across Telangana.
As the Congress highlights its governance record, the BRS and BJP have turned the 1,000-day milestone into a major political battleground, setting the stage for a sharper confrontation between the ruling party and the opposition.
