Bubista Leaves Cape Verde After Fairytale World Cup, Signs Two-Year Deal with RS Berkane

Cape Verde's remarkable World Cup journey has come to an end in more ways than one, with head coach Bubista embarking on a new chapter after accepting the managerial role at Moroccan club RS Berkane.

The club confirmed on Tuesday that Pedro Brito, popularly known as Bubista, has signed a two-year contract, succeeding Moïne Chaâbani, who has taken charge of the Tunisia national team.

Bubista leaves the Cape Verde national side after overseeing one of the most memorable campaigns in the country's football history. Making their FIFA World Cup debut, Cape Verde emerged as one of the tournament's biggest surprise packages with a series of spirited performances against some of the world's strongest teams.

Their campaign began with a stunning 0-0 draw against eventual champions Spain, thanks largely to an inspired display from 40-year-old goalkeeper Vozinha. Cape Verde followed it up with draws against Uruguay and Saudi Arabia, securing second place in their group and a historic berth in the Round of 32.

Although the African nation eventually lost 3-2 to Argentina after extra time, they earned widespread admiration for pushing one of football's traditional giants to the limit. Sidny Lopes Cabral's dramatic equaliser, which forced extra time, was later voted the Goal of the Tournament, further cementing Cape Verde's unforgettable World Cup story.

Following Bubista's departure, the Cape Verde Football Federation expressed gratitude for his commitment and professionalism, thanking him for the significant contribution he made to the growth of the national team.

His next challenge comes with RS Berkane, one of Morocco's leading clubs and the 2025 CAF Confederation Cup champions. The club is also closely associated with influential Moroccan football administrator Fouzi Lekjaa, a prominent figure in African and global football administration.

With expectations high, Bubista now faces the task of building on his World Cup success and guiding RS Berkane to more continental glory.
