
Budget Session from March 16, Telangana Cabinet Clears Major Decisions
The Telangana Cabinet has decided to convene the State Legislative Assembly Budget Session from March 16 , beginning with the Governor’s address , while the State Budget 2026 - 27 will be presented on March 20 . Announcing the decisions, Information Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said the session will focus on welfare, infrastructure expansion and economic priorities. In a major urban infrastructure decision, the government will take full control of the Hyderabad Metro Rail from Larsen & Toubro (L&T) by March 31 , a move expected to streamline operations and support future expansion of the city’s transport network.
The Cabinet approved significant employee welfare measures, including a personal accident insurance cover providing ₹1.2 crore to families in case of accidental death. A ₹528-crore health trust will implement a cashless healthcare scheme with equal contributions from the government and employees. The scheme will benefit 3.56 lakh employees , 2.88 lakh pensioners , and their dependents covering over 17 lakh beneficiaries and provide free treatment for nearly 2,000 procedures across government hospitals and 650+ empanelled private hospitals .
To strengthen education infrastructure, land allocations were approved for a JNTU-affiliated engineering college in Mahabubabad district and another engineering college under Satavahana University in Siddipet district. Land will also be allotted in 21 Assembly constituencies for Young India Integrated Residential Schools to improve access to quality education. The Cabinet further allocated land for a Greenfield Mini Stadium in Bhadrachalam to promote sports development.
In addition, 20 acres in Khammam district were allotted for a Sri Venkateswara Swamy Divya Kshetram under the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams, and 3.12 acres in Karimnagar district for a Panchamukha Anjaneya Swamy temple , aiming to boost spiritual tourism and regional development. As part of the state’s Clean & Green Energy Policy , renewable energy distribution licenses were approved for data centers consuming up to 300 MW power , reinforcing Telangana’s push toward sustainable growth and digital infrastructure expansion. The Cabinet said these decisions mark important milestones in strengthening public services, employee security and long-term development across the state.
