The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved two major National Highway widening projects in Telangana covering a total length of 190.76 km , with an investment of ₹7,597.16 crore , aimed at easing congestion, improving connectivity, and boosting regional economic growth.

The decision was taken by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) , chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi .

According to an official statement, the projects include the widening of the Armoor–Jagtial–Mancherial section of NH-63 under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM) and the Jagtial–Karimnagar section of NH-563 under the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model . Both corridors will be upgraded to four-lane highways with modern design standards.

The Armoor–Jagtial–Mancherial stretch passes through Nizamabad, Jagtial, and Mancherial districts , and is currently facing severe traffic congestion due to dense built-up areas along the route, including Anksapoor, Korutla, Jagtial, Dharmapuri, Lakshettipet, and Mancherial .

Similarly, the Jagtial–Karimnagar section is also heavily congested, passing through urbanised locations such as Jagtial, Potharam, Gangadhara, and Karimnagar , where bottlenecks have slowed down smooth vehicular movement.

The upgraded corridors will feature bypasses around congested towns , ensuring smoother traffic flow and reduced urban interference. The highways will be developed with a design speed of 100 km/h and an open tolling system , improving travel efficiency and highway operations.

Upon completion, the project is expected to significantly reduce travel time, including a cut of about 1 hour and 30 minutes between Armoor and Mancherial , and around 45 minutes between Jagtial and Karimnagar , enabling faster movement of both passengers and freight.

The statement further highlighted that the project will strengthen regional mobility , improve logistics efficiency , and promote socio-economic development across the districts of Nizamabad, Jagtial, Mancherial, and Karimnagar .

In addition, the highway expansion is expected to bring environmental and operational benefits, including reduced fuel consumption , lower carbon emissions , and decreased vehicle operating costs , contributing to more sustainable transport infrastructure in the region.
