CBI Gets 5-Day Custody of Ex-Judge and Son in Twisha Sharma Death Case
A local court on Friday sent former district judge Giribala Singh and her son Samarth Singh, a lawyer , to CBI custody for five days in connection with the death of model-actor Twisha Sharma . The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) produced both accused before the court and sought their custodial interrogation, which was granted until June 2.
Samarth Singh, who was already in CBI custody, had his remand extended by five more days . The court of Justice Shobhana Bhalawe allowed the agency’s plea, noting the need for detailed questioning of both accused. According to the complainant’s lawyer, the CBI informed the court that their custody was essential to confront both accused and extract crucial details regarding the circumstances surrounding the death.
Twisha Sharma, 33, was allegedly found hanging at her in-laws’ residence in Bhopal’s Katara Hills area on May 12. The CBI took over the investigation earlier this week and registered a fresh FIR naming Giribala Singh and Samarth Singh as accused .
The case had earlier seen legal developments when a sessions court granted anticipatory bail to Giribala Singh on May 15. However, the Madhya Pradesh High Court overturned the bail order , observing that it was not justified in light of the allegations. Following the High Court’s decision, the CBI arrested Giribala Singh on Thursday.
Twisha’s family has alleged that she was subjected to domestic violence and dowry-related harassment by her husband and mother-in-law, which they claim drove her to take the extreme step. The accused have denied the allegations, with Giribala Singh previously questioning claims about Twisha’s mental health and medical history.
The investigation is ongoing.
