Andhra Pradesh's capital city Amaravati received a major development boost after the Union Cabinet approved the construction of the Central Government General Pool Office Accommodation (CGGPOA) complex, a flagship project aimed at strengthening the administrative presence of the Centre in the state.

Welcoming the decision, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union Government for approving the project, describing it as a significant milestone in Amaravati's growth journey. He said the project would enhance coordination among various central government departments and improve the efficiency of public service delivery.

The proposed office complex will serve as a common administrative hub for multiple central government offices, bringing them under one roof and creating a more streamlined governance system. According to the state government, the project is expected to play a crucial role in developing the institutional infrastructure required for Amaravati's long-term expansion as a modern capital city.

The Centre has approved the project at an estimated cost of ₹1,299 crore , with the complex planned across nearly 23.2 lakh square feet . Designed with a focus on sustainability and modern infrastructure, the campus will feature environmentally friendly construction standards and advanced administrative facilities.

Naidu said the project aligns with the vision of building Amaravati as a green and future-ready capital , equipped with world-class public infrastructure. He noted that the presence of major central government establishments would not only strengthen governance but also boost investor confidence and economic activity in the region.

The approval assumes added significance as Amaravati enters a renewed phase of development, with both the state and central governments accelerating investments in administrative, transport and civic infrastructure. The establishment of a dedicated central government office complex is expected to further reinforce the city's status as the administrative nerve centre of Andhra Pradesh.

Officials believe the project will generate employment during the construction phase while also creating long-term opportunities through the expansion of government and support services. With several key capital projects now moving forward, the latest Cabinet nod is being viewed as another step toward transforming Amaravati into a fully functional and globally competitive capital city.
