Centre Invites Nominations for National Teachers Awards 2026, Applications Open Till July 10

The Ministry of Education has invited online applications and nominations for the National Teachers Awards 2026 , aimed at recognising teachers who have made exceptional contributions towards improving the quality of school education and supporting the overall development of students.

The initiative, launched by the Department of School Education & Literacy , seeks to honour educators who have demonstrated excellence, innovation and commitment in teaching practices and student development.

Teachers eligible for consideration include those serving in Central Government, State Government, Union Territory administration and local body schools , along with educators working in aided and private schools affiliated with recognised boards . Applicants must fulfil the eligibility conditions prescribed under the official award guidelines.

The application process will be conducted through the National Awards Portal , with online self-nominations open from 15 June to 10 July 2026 . Teachers will have additional time for final submission of their nominations from 11 to 13 July 2026 .

The selection process will involve multiple stages, including evaluation by District/Regional Selection Committees , State/Organisation Selection Committees , and an Independent National Jury . Shortlisted candidates will participate in interactions with the jury before the final selection.

The final list of awardees will be announced after approval by the Education Minister between 10 and 20 August 2026 . The award ceremony and related rehearsals are scheduled for 4 and 5 September 2026 .

Through the annual awards, the government aims to highlight the role of outstanding teachers in strengthening the school education system and encouraging innovative approaches to learning.
