Having already etched his name into Indian athletics history, Gurindervir Singh is now focused on an even bigger challenge, becoming the first Indian sprinter to clock the 100 metres in under 10 seconds .

The 25-year-old speedster recently became the country's fastest man after rewriting the national record with a remarkable 10.09-second run at the Federation Cup last month. While the achievement earned him nationwide recognition, Gurindervir believes his journey is only beginning.

Speaking at the 'Youth for Viksit Bharat: MY Bharat Youth Convention' in New Delhi, the Punjab-born sprinter revealed that breaking the elusive 10-second barrier has been his dream since childhood.

According to Gurindervir, many people had doubted whether an Indian athlete could ever achieve such a feat. Rather than discouraging him, those doubts strengthened his determination. Now, with the national record in his possession and confidence at an all-time high, the sprinter has made the sub-10-second mark his primary target.

The past few weeks have been particularly memorable for the athlete. Alongside the celebrations that followed his record-breaking performance , Gurindervir described an interaction with Prime Minister Narendra Modi as one of the most special moments of his life. He said the opportunity came as a complete surprise and brought immense pride to both him and his family.

Despite the growing attention surrounding his achievements, Gurindervir insists that fame has not altered his mindset. He welcomes the recognition, believing it can inspire more young Indians to take up athletics, but remains firmly focused on training, hard work and self-improvement .

The sprinter says he feels no pressure from the spotlight and prefers to concentrate on continuous progress while pushing his limits every day.

With Indian athletics steadily making its mark on the global stage, Gurindervir Singh’s pursuit of the historic 10-second barrier has become one of the sport's most exciting stories. If he succeeds, it would not only be a personal milestone but also a landmark achievement for Indian track and field .
