Chicken Prices Rise, Egg Prices Fall in Telangana
While chicken prices have surged in Telangana, egg prices have dropped sharply , presenting contrasting trends in the state’s poultry market. Market dynamics and international developments are having varied impacts on the poultry sector.
In several markets across the state, chicken prices are currently on the rise. At the farm level , the price of chicken is around Rs 180 per kg , while in the wholesale market it has climbed to about Rs 187 per kg . In the retail market , consumers are paying nearly Rs 207 per kg . The price of dressed chicken has reached around Rs 300 per kg , while skinless chicken has risen to about Rs 342 per kg .
Market experts say the increase is driven by the onset of the summer season and the ongoing wedding and festive events , which have pushed up demand for chicken.
However, while chicken prices are rising, egg prices have witnessed a significant decline . In the market on Saturday , the price of 100 eggs stood at Rs 515 , while a dozen eggs were priced at Rs 62 .
The main reason behind the fall in egg prices is the ongoing conflict in West Asia . India exports eggs in large quantities to Gulf countries , but due to the present war situation, exports have slowed or come to a halt. As a result, the stock meant for export has been diverted to the domestic market , increasing supply and leading to a drop in prices.
Farmers’ Concerns
Poultry farmers have expressed concern over the situation, noting that production costs are rising while egg prices are falling . As a result, consumers are facing higher prices for chicken, while farmers are struggling with lower returns on eggs , creating a difficult scenario for the poultry sector in Telangana.
Market observers warn that chicken prices could rise further in the coming days if demand continues to remain strong.
