Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday formally launched the statewide Pulse Polio immunisation campaign by administering polio drops to children at his camp office in Amaravati on the occasion of National Immunisation Day .

During the programme, the Chief Minister interacted with parents and underscored the importance of viewing children as a valuable asset to families and society. He said there is a need to foster a mindset that regards children as a source of happiness, prosperity and long-term strength rather than as a burden. According to him, the future of any society depends on the care, health and development of its younger generation.

Naidu stressed that the responsibility of raising children should not rest solely on mothers. He called upon fathers to take an equally active role in childcare and parenting, noting that the healthy growth and development of children require the collective efforts of both parents. He also encouraged men within families to participate more actively in nurturing and supporting children.

Reflecting on social changes over the years, the Chief Minister said that traditional joint family systems once played a significant role in child-rearing. Grandparents and other family members contributed to the upbringing of children, helping them develop values, discipline and cultural awareness. He expressed hope that the positive aspects of the joint family structure would regain relevance in the future.

Highlighting demographic concerns, Naidu said perceptions about family size need to evolve. He noted that the Andhra Pradesh government is currently encouraging families to have two or more children and is conducting awareness programmes to create greater understanding among parents. Such efforts, he said, are aimed at ensuring balanced population growth and strengthening the social fabric of the state.

The Chief Minister also urged parents to ensure that children receive all government-recommended vaccines according to the prescribed immunisation schedule. He emphasised that timely vaccination remains one of the most effective safeguards against preventable diseases and is essential for protecting public health.

Family Welfare Department officials informed the Chief Minister that the three-day Pulse Polio campaign aims to cover nearly 50 lakh children below the age of five across Andhra Pradesh. Senior Health Department officials and staff participated in the launch of the programme, which forms part of the state’s continuing efforts to safeguard child health and maintain protection against polio.
