China's Wang Yi To Attend June 22 BRICS Security Talks In New Delhi
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will travel to New Delhi next week to attend the 16th Meeting of BRICS National Security Advisers and High Representatives , a crucial gathering expected to shape the agenda for the BRICS Summit that India will host later this year.
Announcing the visit on Thursday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said Wang would participate in the June 22-23 meeting at India's invitation and exchange views with fellow BRICS members on global and regional security challenges. The discussions are expected to focus on traditional and non-traditional security threats , multilateral cooperation, global governance reform, terrorism, emerging technologies, artificial intelligence governance, supply-chain resilience and preparations for the September summit.
Wang, who is also a member of the Communist Party of China's Politburo and Director of the Office of the Central Foreign Affairs Commission, is expected to hold talks with India's National Security Adviser Ajit Doval on bilateral issues. The meeting will be closely watched as both leaders serve as Special Representatives for the India-China boundary dispute . Recent diplomatic exchanges have indicated gradual progress towards normalising ties following years of tensions along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) after the 2020 Galwan Valley clashes.
Lin said BRICS nations, representing a growing share of the Global South , remain committed to promoting peace, development, multilateralism and a more equitable international order. China hopes to strengthen coordination with fellow members and deepen political and security cooperation, he added.
India currently holds the rotating BRICS presidency. The expanded grouping comprises Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, making it one of the world's most influential emerging-economy blocs. The New Delhi meeting is expected to help forge common positions on major geopolitical challenges ahead of the leaders' summit and reinforce BRICS' growing role in shaping the evolving global order.
