Chinese robotic dog controversy aside, IndiaAI Summit showcases innovation and global interest
A brief controversy surfaced at the IndiaAI Impact Summit 2026 after Galgotias University was asked to remove its exhibition stall for allegedly showcasing a Chinese-manufactured robotic dog as an indigenous innovation. Organisers said exhibitors were required to display only original or locally developed technologies and termed the episode an isolated lapse , stressing that it did not reflect the summit’s larger objectives.
With the issue swiftly addressed, attention returned to the summit’s main agenda as Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed foreign leaders and senior dignitaries from several nations , highlighting India’s push to shape global AI conversations. Among the prominent leaders present were Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo, Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayaka , and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan , reflecting broad international interest in India’s AI vision.
A key business highlight came from Google CEO Sundar Pichai , who said India is poised for an “extraordinary trajectory” in artificial intelligence and announced the India–America Connect Initiative to deploy new subsea cable routes enhancing AI connectivity between India, the United States and parts of the Southern Hemisphere. He also unveiled a USD 30-million AI for Science Impact Challenge to support global research collaborations.
Beyond headline announcements, the summit saw strong participation from global technology firms, startups and investors, with discussions centred on ethical AI, cross-border collaboration, skilling and real-world applications in healthcare, agriculture and governance. Organisers said the strong turnout prompted the AI Impact Summit Expo to be extended until February 21 , allowing more delegates and visitors to engage with innovations on display.
Despite the brief controversy, the summit continued to project India as a serious convenor of global AI dialogue , balancing innovation, responsibility and international cooperation.
