CISF, Mangaluru Airport Staff Reunite Passenger With Purse Carrying USD 10,000 and Valuables

A remarkable display of alertness, coordination and professionalism by personnel of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and Mangaluru International Airport ensured that a passenger was reunited with a purse containing USD 10,000, 500 UAE dirhams, a gold ring, an iPhone and important travel documents after it was accidentally left behind on Sunday.

The incident unfolded at around 6:15 am when Vittal Hosamani, a member of the airport's landside security team, noticed an unattended black purse resting on a baggage trolley in the lower ground floor parking area. Realising the potential security implications, he immediately alerted the CISF, triggering established safety procedures.

The CISF Quick Response Team promptly secured the area while the airport's Security Operations Control Centre was informed. As a precaution, a Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad, assisted by a trained sniffer dog, thoroughly examined the bag before confirming that it contained no explosive material.

Officials then opened the purse in the presence of authorised personnel and discovered a passport, USD 10,000, 500 UAE dirhams, a gold ring, an iPhone, bank cards and a boarding pass.

A detailed review of CCTV footage revealed that the passenger had already exited the airport. Using details available on the boarding pass, airport authorities obtained his contact information from the airline and informed him that his belongings had been safely recovered.

The passenger, who had arrived from Dubai aboard Air India Express flight IX 814, returned to the airport shortly afterward. Following identity verification and standard security protocols, the purse and all its contents were handed over intact.

Expressing his gratitude through a video message, the passenger praised the CISF and airport staff for their swift response, honesty and dedication. The incident highlights the importance of vigilant security personnel, well-defined emergency procedures and seamless teamwork in safeguarding passengers while reinforcing public confidence in airport security systems across India.
