CJP To Hold Delhi Protest March on Teachers’ Day, Police Await Formal Request

The Delhi Police on Monday said it has not received any formal request for the proposed protest march by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) from India Gate to the Delhi Police Headquarters on September 5.

A police source said no request letter had been received so far. “We have not received any request letter so far. If we receive any request, we will review it accordingly,” the source said.

The CJP announced the protest march on Monday, accusing the Centre of failing to fulfil assurances allegedly given on July 25 to persuade the organisation to withdraw its 36-day agitation over examination irregularities.

According to a statement issued by the party, the march will be held on Teachers’ Day, September 5, beginning at India Gate and proceeding towards the Delhi Police Headquarters. The organisation said the demonstration would highlight what it described as the government’s failure to honour commitments made during negotiations.

The march is expected to be led by families of students who died by suicide following the cancellation of the NEET examination and the subsequent re-test. Families and individuals who allegedly faced police excesses during the July agitation are also expected to participate.

The decision to organise the march was taken at a meeting of the CJP National Working Committee on Monday, roughly a month after the organisation called off its agitation following discussions with the Centre.

The proposed demonstration comes amid continuing concerns over examination irregularities and student grievances. The CJP has maintained that several assurances made during the negotiations have not been implemented.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Police has made it clear that any request for permission will be considered only after it is formally submitted. The authorities are expected to examine the proposed route and other arrangements before taking a decision on the march.
